On JULY 1st 2014, we held the first Annual Witless Bay Mayor’s HIKE for Heart & Stroke!
The 2014 hike began in the late afternoon at St. Bernard’s Elementary School, from where participants made their way along the river trail leading to our recreation grounds. Everyone was invited to wear a backpack with a picnic to share inside. At the recreation grounds, we then shared a healthy picnic, and celebrated the Grand Opening of the new Community Recreation Building. Community olympics then followed, with kids competing in potato sack races, tug-of-war, egg & spoon races, 3-legged races, and other sporting events!
A good number of community groups and sponsors helped out at the event, including the BBBAA, the O’Connor 50+ Club, the Kinsmen, the Community Enhancement Committee, and the Heritage Committee.
The next Mayor’s Hike for Heart & Stroke will be held in Summer 2015 – we will keep you posted!
